already mentioned the grandeur of Matt Morris and his voice. Wanted to include a video from the show I saw him play last week at The Mint. Oh, and Justin Timberlake is singing with him. Enjoy.

Matt Morris didn’t follow the same track as his MMC brethren like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. He sat in the background as a songwriter, growing a silly looking mustache. I guess he finally decided it was time to get some of the spotlight for himself recently, or perhaps Justin decided it was time, either way, he’s getting it.

Morris is signed to Tennman Records, Justin’s indie label, and just put out his debut album “When Everything Breaks Open”. The title of the album is a line from what isn’t necessarily the best track on the record, but I think has the most radio potential for sure, and that song is “Live Forever” which was produced by Timberlake.

I’ve actually been following Morris for quite a while and have had his album for months since I was doing some work with Tennman and I’m really excited that he is getting instant recognition. Even my mom messaged me this morning telling me she saw him on The Ellen Show yesterday and wanted to know if I had his album because she loved his voice. I had the opportunity to see him live at The Mint in LA last night, which was my first time seeing him play live and I was blown away. The musical landscape that his band provided (3 horns, 2 violins, 2 guitars, 3 backup vocalists, drums, bass and piano) the most amazing setting for his killer vocals to soar. He uses some cool effects when he sings, sometimes very Imogen Heap-esque, which add to the grandeur of the performance, but when he turns off all of the effects and sings from his heart, there is an explosiveness that can’t be summed up in words. I’m not a huge mover or shaker at concerts, i tend to stand with my arms crossed, enjoying the music far more than it looks like I am, but had someone started it off, I quickly would have begun dancing along with some of the more groovy tracks.

Definitely head over to amazon or itunes and grab this album. It’s worth it.
