The reason that Glee sucks isn’t because of a lack of vocal talent. I mean fuck, Lea Michelle is incredible. Beyond incredible. Her voice actually makes her attractive somehow. It’s a weird miracle of art.
The problem with Glee is that they play such horrible songs most of the time. They’ll play one pop hit and then a bunch of hits from the 60′s or from old Broadway shows.
Now this kid, Sam Tsui and his cohorts, sing super awesome hit songs and he sings just as well if not better than the Glee stars (besides Lea Michelle of course). They hadn’t uploaded much in a while, but just came pounding back at the youtube door with a bunch of tunes that have already amassed a million or so hits apiece. Enjoy.
She won a grammy 2 years ago and currently has not 1, but 2 albums in iTune’s top 10. But you are saying…who the fuck is Lea Michele?
Well, its good you’ve tuned into my blog today, because now you know the name of the lead actress, who plays Rachel, in Glee. I had actually been listening to her grammy award winning performance as the lead female, Wendla, in Spring Awakening a couple of years ago, without even thinking I would ever know what she looked like and definitely didn’t think she’d be one of the top selling artists in America a couple of years later. But my god does she have an incredible voice.
Lea was already singing from an early age, playing the young Cossette in Le Miserables, a young character in Ragtime, two characters in Fiddler On The Roof and finally, at the elder age of 14 was starring in Spring Awakening. All of these shows, mind you, were the Broadway versions. Not eastern Idaho.
Seriously though, the girls voice is insane good. In the finale of Glee I was kinda pissed when she took to singing Don’t Rain On My Parade as her big solo for the last episode of the season. The fun of the show is that they redo pop songs and I was like “really? an old Broadway classic? this isn’t going to be interesting.” But then I watched in awe for her entire performance. I mean really. Wow. She’s so good. Plus the rest of the singers on that show are rather awesome as well. They make up for what is probably the worst script in the history of television.

Between posting about Hanson and now about Glee, I’m probably losing all of my street cred, but I don’t think I had any to begin with, so I may as well just go bizonkers. I’m super stoked for the season premiere of the new show Glee that had a sneak preview premiere a few months ago. It’s kind of like High School Musical for people slightly older than the Disney audience. But I love musicals and the cast seems to have great voices and they are just doing sweet covers of popular songs. In fact, based on the first episode, I think they are just going down the list of ‘most downloaded songs of all time’ on iTunes. But that works for me. The show premieres tomorrow (Wednesday) on Fox at 9pm (after So You Think You Can Dance).
