from the land that brought you Phoenix, comes some other quirky french band called “Revolver”. Kinda cool old school french pop feel. definitely could belong in the Triplets de Bellville soundtrack.

Today we again speak with our trusty dundee, Claire Scott about some of her favorite things.
Broc: So, Claire, I’d love to hear about some of your favorite things in the world.
Claire: And I’d simply love to tell you about them sir!
Broc: Well, according to your facebook profile, one of your activities is “dimples”, please explain.
Claire: Hahahahaahaha (she actually laughed for about 17 minutes after this, but that was hard to transcribe). That actually refers back to my childhood. You see, growing up on a kangaroo farm in the suburbs of Geelong I had to make up some of my own games to play in order to keep from going crazy and hopping into a kangaroo mum’s pouch. So, what I would do is take my index fingers and push in my cheeks where I believed dimples should exist, see, I had no dimples at the time, and I would hold my fingers there for hours on end while I sang a tune in my head that went “dimples dimples they are not frimples, dimples dimples dee da dum”. I had a boring childhood.
Broc: right. that’s fucking weird. lets move on, tell us about a band you love.
Claire: Oooooooh, that’s a great one. I’ve been really into this band from Orange County, CA called Dusty Rhodes & The River Band. I think I like them mostly because of the lead singer’s mustache. It’s like, is he from the 70′s or is he from the hipster 2010′s? And how about the fact that there is a fiddle in the band? A fiddle! Hey diddle diddle! And their live performance is so outrageous! Its like The Wiggles, Men At Work and Savage Garden all on stage at once, fighting over the last cookie. You really should check out their video. They are probably the only non Aussie (oy oy oy) band that I like. Well, them and that cute little Bieber kid. he’s adorable.

I don’t think i’ve ever seen a music video that captured the insane energy of the artist it was for so well in my life.
Andrew WK is one of the most entertaining and action packed crazy performers of all time. I still have a scar on my right shin from a show of his at USC when I was smashed against the top corner of the stage as I tried to get on it to rock with him. I made it on the stage and ended up getting hit in the face with the head of his lead guitarist’s guitar. Rad.

We are a young country. Most of our culture is either stolen from our immigrant family’s homeland or manufactured by Disney and now, one of the few things we own we are letting someone else beat us at? What’s next? Will China create the best bbq in the world?

i’ve been kinda obsessed with the Mumford & Sons album this week. The songs are all rather formulaic and similar to eachother, but I love the formula. Mandolin, folky harmonies, ravaging acoustic guitar strumming. It’s just great music that’s somewhere between folk, bluegrass and rock. Think I might have to go see these guys when they come to LA next month.

of course only a band as grandiose and in love with epic sci-fi prog-rock albums such as Coheed & Cambria can release a song called “Here We Are Jugernaut” and take themselves seriously.
This song is pure rock gold and the video fits it really nicely. Definitely another album i’m excited for. Enjoy.
M.I.A. has a new video out for her song “Born Free” and it is truly an incredible display of the means of storytelling a music video can be. the images combined with the music are incredibly powerful. to me, it evicts some powerful Holocaust imagery and reminds me to never forget and never let something like that happen again. really an incredible work of art. and of course, it has been banned from youtube for its violent nature. because i’m sure Call of Duty 4 is much different….
